So many of us want to awaken from the dream of separation yet it seems to be out of our reach. Could it be that although we do want to awaken, we still have goals that we want to achieve in this world? So we end up being torn between two worlds, the world of spirit and the world of form.
As we read in A Course in Miracles, Workbook Lesson 257: “…No one can serve contradictory goals and serve them well…” The trouble is that there is no meeting place for spirit and matter. If we have material goals can we also have spiritual goals?
Jesus seems to answer that question in Lesson 258: “All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God. His memory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist…” W423.
So how do we live in this world and yet aspire to awaken from the dream of separation? We don’t have to leave our jobs and abandon all the projects we are involved in. We just ensure that this is not the focus of our lives. We try, instead, to remember that nothing in the world of form endures and God is our only goal. Obviously, we have material needs that must be met if we want to survive here. But perhaps it would help if we just go with the flow and make a point of not getting caught up in the problems of the world. That's not what our society, our parents and our education system have taught us. But provided we remember to be the presence of love, to practice forgiveness, to have moments of quiet and to trust in the Holy Spirit/Higher Self, we will most probably be guided Home. Haven’t we been guided this far?
